As the new punk in town you have to establish your power base in the city. To do this you need to construct businesses and factories in order to expand your 'family' of gangsters and to start earning money.

You start out simply with a Soup Kitchen or two then progress through funeral parlours (usually the busiest place in town), Drinking Dens and Peep Shows until you get into big profits with Breweries and swanky Restaurants.

As you move through the game you get the chance to upgrade all your enterprises from shady, underworld operations into spectacular and very respectable places of business like Casinos and Theatres (though some of those might engage occasionally in a bit of 'funny business').

Once a business is established and doing well, it often becomes the target of unwelcome attention. Not just from rival families in the neighbourhood, but especially from the Police. Always trying to make sure they get their regular 'charity contributions', the amount of Police attention your businesses get is a reflection of your generosity...
