General FAQ for Mob Rule/Street Wars

Before asking for technical advise about hardware/software compatability problems or the game crashes you should consider the following points and supply as much information as possible when asking a question.

Have you done a FULL install of the game?
Does you video card support 800 x 600, 16bit?
What sound card do you have installed?
Do you have the latest drivers for your video card installed?
What exactly is going wrong? Which level does it occur on? What were you doing when the game crashed/froze?
When the game crashes, are there any message boxes that come up or does it just immediately restart the machine or what?
Is there interference on the intro animation and does it take the form of left over artefacts as the scene moves and changes and is the interference in square boxes?
If you get through to the title screen, does clicking on the REPLAY INTRO button produce the same corrupted animation (as in point 7) or is it better?
Are you able to click on the SETTINGS button and adjust various game settings and return to the main title screen without problem?
Does your machine have any form of network on it and does the title screen have a button saying "Network Not Available" or "Network Game"?

Question: "I get an error message reported when the game attempts to switch the video card into an exclusive 800x600x 16 bits per pixel mode using DirectX. The error message reads: SetDisplayMode Failed Error =<xxxx>

Answer: The error could be caused by any one of the following:-
a) There is some other software running which will not allow the screen to be put into an exclusive mode (i.e. some other window wishes to retain the same resolution).
b) It is a video card which cannot support the required resolution.
c) DirectX has not been installed correctly.
d) The video card is not 100% DirectX compatible and certified.
e) The video drivers for the video card are out of date or incompatible with DirectX 6.0

If you have an ATI video card then we suggest you check out Article ID: Q161405 in the Knowledge base at the Microsoft web site for some important information.

Question: "I can't get beyond Hick Town, Stage 9...."

Answer: The most common reason is that all components of the mission briefing have not been completed exactly as required in the briefing. The completion criteria that most people that are having a problem with are:
a) There must be at least two Policemen under your control who are circling estates. It is important that they are circling the entire estate and not just patrolling around a single point or house.
b) ALL tenant businesses which are paying rent must have the bribe level set to at least 10%
c) You must have delivered at least $10,000 dollars to inside the HQ of the oppossing gang. This can be verified inside the HQ data screen.
d) You must have at least two completed level 2 houses. This means the Peep Show and/or the Quack or their upgrades. Once all these criteria are met simultaneously, then it should progress to the next level.

Question: "I can't work out how to bribe the 'other' gang."

Answer: Go inside your HQ and on the data screen there is an icon to produce a bribe. Clicking this once makes a money bag outside you HQ building with $2,000 in it. Pick the bag up with one of your Workers and take it into one of the buildings belonging to another gang, this automatically gives them a bribe. On your HQ's data screen is a summary of the amount of money paid to the other gangs as bribes. If the amount you need to bribe another gang is higher than the initial bag value, then clicking on the bribe icon multiple times will increase the amount of money in the bag.

Question: "I don't know how to take over a property?"

Answer: Both workers and fixers are able to 'take over' a property. It is simply a matter of selecting a group of Workers and/or Fixers and then right clicking whilst the mouse is positioned over an enemy's property. Your 'team' will then attempt to destroy the fence and once the entire fence is destroyed, they will enter the building and it will become yours. As you progress in the game, the opposition will respond to you attempting to take over their properties and you may need to defend yourself whilst taking it over. The most effective way is to select as many people as possible to simultaneously take over a property.

Question: "In Dead Dog Ditch, Stage 4, I´m supposed to build a Nightclub but I'm not able to build a Bar to upgrade it, nor can I build a Cinema. I am only able to build a Hotel. What shall do I do?"

Answer: In order to create the necessary buildings you have to construct buildings in the sequence shown in the manual and then upgrade them accordingly as shown when you click the upgrade button. The following examples show typical upgrade paths:

Brothel = 1st stage upgrade of Peep Show
Hotel = 2nd stage upgrade of Doss House
Night Club = 2nd stage upgrade of Saloon

Businesses are grouped into sets of three. The first of each set is the only one which can be built directly whilst the latter two are upgrades.

Hack's Office => Print Office => Newspaper Office
Level 5
Saloon => Speak Easy => Nightclub
Gambling Den => Bookmakers => Casino

Initially you are only able to build level 1 buildings. Once you have constructed one of each type of level 1 building (Soup Kitchen and Drinking Den) level 2 become available. To construct a level 3 building you will need to upgrade at least one of each of your level 1 buildings to the next stage as well as build one of each of the level 2. This continues in a similar manner on each successive stage.

Question: "I've done everything the Godfather says, I've killed off the red team as blue helped and have built a hospital. I then healed what men were ill but I still can't advance to the next level."

Answer: You must restore the energy of ALL your important people. This includes Workers, Fixers and Gangsters. Make sure that they have all visited the Hospital and that it states they are all Fit & Well.
